An exhibition with themes ranging from the transformation of gender roles to the evolution of the relationship with nature within the domestic space, and the growing influence of technology on the way we live.
On the occasion of the Triennale Milano’s one-hundredth anniversary, the “Home Sweet Home” exhibition taking place from May 12- September 10, 2023 is an emotional and aesthetic journey which kicks off with the history of the institution and its international exhibitions and goes up to today’s contemporary idea of the home and living.
Curated by Nina Bassoli, the Triennale’s curator for architecture, urban renewal, and the city, with exhibition design by Captcha Article, it consists of ten site-specific environments with projects from some of the most interesting architectural firms, groups, and international research centers. Each of these dialogue with five historically themed sections which derive from genuine “incursions” into the historical archives of the Triennale.
The various names involved in the exhibition’s creation include Assemble Studio, the designer Matilde Cassani, the French landscape architect Céline Baumann, the Canadian Center for Architecture (CCA), the Catalan architecture firm MAIO, the DOGMA research group, and the Sex & the City collective; additionally, there are works from the Sicilian architect Maria Giuseppina Grasso Cannizzo and the Pritzker-Prize-winning firms of Lacaton & Vassal Architectes and Diller Scofidio + Renfro.
The works on display highlight the transformations of architecture’s role in modern society and present the results of research which are not merely typological, but also historical, scientific, sociological, artistic, and political. They display genuine experimentation into architectonic, exhibition, and communicative languages. Plus, the exhibition’s unprecedented presence of women, who make up the vast majority (almost all) of the designers, and sensitivity to the values of care and the environment should also be highlighted.
