Last June 20, 2024, the ADI – Industrial Design Association awarded the awards for the seventieth edition of the Compasso d’Oro.<\/h4>\n

The award, established in 1954 from an idea by Gio Ponti<\/a>, continues to confer international prestige and to be a very important point of reference in the sector. Recognition of innovative and quality design, the Compasso d’Oro<\/strong> embraces various fields: from medicine to mobility to industry, naturally passing through the home and it is precisely on this category that we focus, to discover the awarded designers and their projects.<\/p>\n

The recognition is a window on lifestyles and the needs of the present time as well as on aesthetic evolution seen through the lens of furniture and lighting<\/span>. But not only that: with the 9 lifetime achievement awards<\/strong> awarded this year, it contributes to keeping alive the memory of the masters of the past and to enhancing the work of the masters of the present. The participating and winning products will, as usual, be on display at the ADI Design Museum in Milan<\/strong> until 16 September 2024.<\/p>\n

TECHNOLOGY EMBRACES BEAUTY<\/strong><\/p>\n

In an ideal tour of the house, let’s start with the coverings: the Compasso d’Oro awards Attitude<\/strong>, a ceramic covering designed by Daniele Martelli <\/strong>for CCImola<\/strong>. Called “industrial stone”, it has a natural and sophisticated appearance accompanied by high performance.<\/p>\n

Among the technologies for the home, Lhov<\/strong> by Fabrizio Cris\u00e0<\/strong> for Elica<\/strong> is also included, an appliance with a totally discreet design, in black glass, which conveys the oven, hob and extractor hood with a single display for the controls. And the idea of Marco Acerbis<\/strong>, awarded for MRX<\/strong>, the outdoor shading system designed for Talenti<\/strong>, is technological: closed it is an essential frame, open it offers a large and refreshing area of shade.<\/p>\n

Technology marries beauty in these award-winning products and lighting designs; first and foremost the Anima lamp by Davide Groppi and Giorgio Rava<\/strong>: a thin stem of light whose name is a statement of style. The same goes for Biga by Marco Zito for Lym<\/strong> which elegantly contains a light fixture with switch, shelf, wireless charging and USB socket.<\/p>\n

Remaining in the lighting sector, the award to Figaroqua Figarol\u00e0 by Paolo Rizzatto and marionanni for Viabizzuno<\/strong> is also interesting: a system of cables to be installed on the ceiling to then adjust the position of the lamps according to needs.<\/p>\n

FURNISHINGS FOR AUTHENTIC HOMES OF CHARACTER<\/strong><\/p>\n

Among the awarded furnishings there is the versatility that can be seen, for example, in the Costume modular sofa by Stefan Diez for Magis<\/strong>, but also in the Za:Za sofa by the Zaven studio for Zanotta<\/strong>. In both cases, the project started from the observation of concrete dynamics of the house and the desire to create sustainable furniture. The Farfallina seat by Alvaro Siza for Sozzi Arredamenti <\/strong>has great character, with a solid beech structure and leather seat.<\/p>\n

The product career award was awarded to three projects by Gio Ponti, founder of the Compasso d’Oro, awarded to the Blu Ponti tile collection<\/strong>, from 1960, produced by Ceramiche Francesco De Maio<\/strong>; to the Superleggera <\/strong>chair, from 1957 for Cassina and to the D.154.2 armchair <\/strong>from 1953 for Molteni<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The lifetime achievement awards<\/strong> were instead awarded to Paola Antonelli; Umberto Cassina; Anna Ferrino; Roberto Gavazzi; Piero Lissoni; Francesca Planeta; Maurizio Riva; Paolo Rizzatto; Roberto Ziliani. With two international awards to Tadao Ando and Rei Kawakubo.<\/p>\n
