Extendable tables – big when you need them to be

Compact and discreet in everyday life, extendable tables transform to accommodate friends and family. A versatile piece of furniture that combines functionality, design, and space optimization.

There is a specific moment when a table stops being just a piece of furniture and becomes the center of the home: when guests arrive. Extendable tables were created precisely for this reason, to intelligently respond to changing lives, impromptu dinners, growing families, and friends who join unexpectedly. Their true cleverness lies in their ability to transform from a compact table for two or four people to a generous surface capable of seating many diners, preferably in a few simple steps and without effort. The extensions are hidden inside the structure or added with increasingly advanced, sliding and stable systems, designed for everyday use.

Their strengths?

Versatility: they take up little space when closed, but multiply the seating when needed.
Practicality: thanks to them you can avoid having a “necessarily large” table at home, which is certainly more cumbersome.
The design: they show off refined and creative materials and finishes and increasingly sophisticated and invisible mechanisms.

A fixed table is a smart piece of furniture, capable of adapting to real needs. It’s the ideal solution for you if you live in small spaces, if you love entertaining without sacrificing order, if you’re looking for a functional object that can evolve over time, following the rhythms (and guests) of your home.

1 – RETRACTABLE WHEELS

The table Tola by Pointhouse is made of knotted oak veneer, supported internally by an epoxy powder-coated metal frame. It has a nice solid structure, but extending it is child’s play: the legs are equipped with a patented Click-Clack retractable wheel device, which makes it easy to open. Heads up for the aesthetic lovers: the mechanism is automatic and does not feature any unsightly manual locking/unlocking or braking levers. Tola is available with two 40 cm extensions and in the Long version (pictured) with three extensions.

2 – BISTRO STYLE

Gualtiero by Miniforms is the ideal table for small apartments and intimate spaces. It is designed to take up as little space as possible, but to be the absolute protagonist of the environment in which it is placed. It can be customized in the finishes of the top, column and base: here it is in wood entirely lacquered in pumpkin color. Ha due ribalte laterali che gli permettono di estendersi fino a 100 e a 120 cm, rimanendo compatto e ultra pratico. In addition to oak, walnut and ash, it is available in 15 wow-coloured lacquers, from silk grey to Byzantium blue to Bloody Mary red.

3 – ESSENTIAL

The extendable Sushi table by Kristalia combines its essential shape with refined materials chosen both for the top (which can range from Linecompact and Pure-white laminates to Fenix-NTM, from Dekton by Cosentino to glass) and for the frame and legs, in anodized drawn aluminum, contrasting or painted in the same shade as the top. Light and resistant, minimal and refined, Sushi gives its best in modern homes where basic shapes but advanced technologies are preferred. It is available in different sizes, to perfectly adapt to your space and needs.

4 – TWO-TONE

The Puntoquadro extendable table by Alma Design is made of wood and is born from simple and harmonious geometric shapes, embellished with bold chromatic accents: the aluminum guides, traditionally hidden, are proudly displayed here in the matt red or matt black painted versions. Even the stainless steel side knob – used to fix the guides – is made visible, in a table that transforms the functional element into a refined aesthetic detail. Puntoquadro is equipped with two 50 cm extensions. Every detail makes it an evergreen destined to withstand the passing of generations and never get boring.

5 – MILLERIGHE

The extendable table Sydney by Ibfor has a marble-effect ceramic top and a central base in solid oak. Its contemporary design makes it suitable for furnishing modern environments as well as more classic and elegant ones. The barrel-shaped “Millerighe” central base can be painted in various wood types or lacquered in many colours. Its peculiarity is that it opens together with the top and ends up being divided into two crescents. Being a product made in Italy, Sydney is available in various sizes and is completely customizable. If you expect several guests to arrive, you can add two 50 cm extension cords.

6 – LIFT-UP

Diario, as its name suggests, is a small table by Altacom, which nevertheless contains within it all its multifaceted personality. In fact, in a few simple moves, the metal base lifts and transforms it into a coffee table through a gas mechanism adjustable in height from 28 to 88 cm. But that’s not all: thanks to an internal folding extension, its rectangular top (available in wood, also in melamine, mortar-effect and lacquered) can be converted into a comfortable square dining table when needed. And it even has handy retractable wheels! Its mission? To be your faithful companion every moment of your day.

7 – GRANITIC AND RECYCLABLE

Amarello by Meuble House is a very chic and bright table, with a white and cream marbled sintered stone top and a champagne-colored powder-coated metal frame and legs. Sintered stone is highly resistant to heat, scratches, UV rays, water and stains. Above all, it is an eco-friendly material made from a blend of 100% natural minerals, the result of a reversible process that, at the end of its life, allows it to return to its original state and be reused. In the 160 cm everyday version it is the perfect partner for intimate meals, but if extended to 240 cm it becomes a reception table thanks to two included extensions (40 cm each), located at the ends and easily extractable on metal runners.

8 – ROUND FOR 8

Lune is the extendable round table by Mathi Design, created to take center stage in the center of the room. With its large diameter of 120 cm, it can be extended up to 160 and then 200 cm (perfect for 8 people), while still remaining a light presence, aesthetically adaptable to all home and furnishing styles. The light oak wood, with a tapered white steel base, makes it neutral and perfect in any environment (and with any type of chair!).

9 – INDUSTRIAL

The Tappezzeria Table by Chehoma is a vintage industrial dining table with extensions. It is called this way because it recalls the tables used by upholsterers, fixed on four wheels to facilitate movement. It, however, sports an elegant top in rough antique elm wood and is solidly installed on a brown metal tube structure. It is equipped with two 50 cm extensions with easy and immediate locking. Its (additional) beauty? It offers the comfort of being able to sit anywhere, without being disturbed by your legs. Not bad, right?

10 – TELESCOPIC

Mercurio by Ve.Ca Arredamenti is a truly ingenious console table: it quickly transforms from a small decorative table to a kitchen table. The table is supplied with a wooden extension leg, 52×90 cm extensions and a central steel leg. Mercurio is made of high-quality veneered wood that is resistant to wear, scratches and solvents, is easy to clean and has low costs, while the telescopic extension system is made of lightweight yet sturdy aluminum. It can be purchased in three different sizes: extendable from 40 to 200 cm (10 seats), from 40 to 250 cm (12 seats) and from 40 to 300 cm (14 seats). It’s irresistible for at least two reasons: when lunch is over and everyone leaves, it reverts to being a convenient console table on which to place vases and books. And what’s more, it’s delivered to your home already assembled.
