The oldest of the Fuorisalone districts—the first since way back in 2001— Tortona is gearing up for the 2024 edition of Milan Design Week (April 16-21, 2024). Needless to say, the program is packed with events, from Superdesign Show – Superstudio (the full program here ) to Tortona Rocks (the full program here ), not to mention calendar-defining locations and events like the ever-present BASE . Group shows, solo exhibitions, exhibitions, and installations. You'll be spoiled for choice.
Amidst early 20th-century industrial buildings, long since restored with refined contemporary concepts, and spaces to lose yourself in, among countless names in the avant-garde design scene, the historic neighborhood behind Porta Genova welcomes the most creative imagination, a leitmotif that speaks to a shared desire for experimentation. But that's not all. It also highlights the rediscovery of vintage-inspired décor, now finding new avenues of expression. The Tortona district encompasses Via Tortona, Via Savona, Via Stendhal, Via Bergognone, and surrounding areas. To reach it by metro, the stop is M2 Porta Genova FS.
WHAT TO SEE
1st (FIRST) – IKEA new collections show
At the Visconti Pavilion, the Swedish brand presents an exhibition exploring "first times." The space, designed by architect Midori Hasuike and spatial designer Emerzon, will explore what happens when you move out on your own for the first time, a crucial transition in everyone's life, unique to each individual. The venue will also feature a bistro with specially designed culinary offerings, and in the evenings, it will be the hub of a varied musical program, changing daily.

ATELIER MIRAGE new collections
An immersive exploration of Mirage's ceramic surface design with the presentation of their latest projects, in collaboration with renowned designers and architects. DESIGNBLOK COSMOS show
Ten glass works by ten contemporary Czech designers, each with a different conceptual approach, represent diverse visions, styles, and generations. Glass, a traditional Czech material, takes center stage in an audiovisual exhibition presented in a metal space capsule mounted on a vehicle.

UNFOLD – DOMUS ACADEMY MILAN show
Domus Academy presents an exhibition-event bringing together students and design schools from around the world. Six universities and as many perspectives are united by a single theme to showcase young talent: "Unfolding Complexities." The participating universities are: BAU College of Arts and Design in Barcelona, College for Creative Studies in Detroit, Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava, Strate Ecole de Design de Sèvres, Nottingham Trent, and Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University.
